A short story is a literary work that tells a series of event in a specific setting. These series of events are the product of the writer's powerful mind and imagination. They are the result of contemplations, and realizations done by the writer either during his gloomy or happy days. Short stories are the outlet of the writer's emotions. It is through short stories that a writer directly or indirectly expresses his ideals, beliefs and opinions regarding issues that continually confronting the society. Thus stories are written due to several purposes such as to inspire, to educate, to entertain and to provoke one's emotions.

Whichever the purpose of a particular story, one thing that is very much sure is that stories have lots of benefits to everyone.

For children stories teach them moral lessons which will be planted in their young minds and that they can ponder upon as they grow older. Other than that, they help in the enhancement of children's imaginative thinking which leads to creativity. According to some experts, children are being trained to think imaginatively while listening or reading stories in accordance to how the writer describes the setting, characters, and events that took place in the story. More than that, children are taught to focus their attention to a specific topic so that if they will be engaged to more complicated brainstorming or emersions they won't have any difficulty. One thing more, their vocabularies will be developed. As a result,, this will help them develop their communication skills both in oral and written communication.

For older person, stories especially with those that contain humor entertain people. Short stories would also provoke questions in the minds of people regarding life and society. Short stories enables them see realities even though the events in the stories did not happen in actual scenes; but there are several situations in life that can be related to those events. The readers are made to see and think of the realities in life. Another thing is that stories teach people to appreciate the beauty of life. This is because through short stories that the adventures of people are told. These characters are used to symbolize things in the real society. It is through them that writers relate the message they wanted their readers to grasp. Despite the fact that these characters shown in these stories don't exist in real life, their struggles can be compared to someone in real life.

A few years ago, I was working at a PetSmart, stocking shelves at 5:00am. Oftentimes, I would leave at 11:00 and head to my other job for a twelve hour shift on an events staff setting up before and cleaning up after weddings, bar mitzvahs, and the like. One morning, while throwing around fifty pound bags of dog food, I had an epiphany. I had the best idea for a story in the history of the human race. It was perfect. It was genius. It was all mine.

A year later, I was on my seventh draft--the 6th having been rejected by Asimov's Science Fiction magazine with a form e-mail--and about ready to quit. In fact, I did quit. I stopped writing for several months. I was discouraged. I was depressed. I was downtrodden.

After a fair amount of wallowing, I decided to give it another try, but I promised myself I would do things differently. I vowed to never get carried away by 'the big idea' again. A few months in, and I've kept to that. I'm writing short stories now--not novels or novellas. If you are just starting out as a creative writer, you should probably be doing the same.

Have you ever desired to write stories online? Writing short stories is a great way to let your imagination out and onto paper. Whether you're writing it by hand or typing it on a computer, your imagination runs free and you can fill a whole notepad with paragraphs, scribbles and brainstorms.

When you write stories online, you can make them about anything you want. They could be your own creations, fan-fictions or even blogs, reviews etc.

When I was younger, I would get a really fascinating idea, write it down, and add content to it over time until it became a decent story. Many of these stories were often stored and never read, I wish I knew a way to write stories online back then! I still find myself going over my old stories and editing them and making changes all the time.

But have you ever wondered how you can write stories online? Think about it! Submitting your stories; getting them reviewed by the public, and there might even be a chance of them being noticed by publishers! (Slight chance, but we can only hope!) How often have we wished and hoped that our stories would be noticed and published? Well the first place to start is to write stories online!

If you already have a short story, that's great! But if not, it's time to get creative. We all want our stories to be noticed. We want people to be able to read them and give them great reviews. We want those people to tell their friends about this great short story they read on the internet. Imagine how fast your stories could spread if that happened!

In my experience, the stories that seem to captivate people the most are fiction. People like to lose themselves in tales where they can escape to another world and forget about real life for an hour or two. To be able to have that effect on someone, you need to have some great imagination and creativity.

You may already have that particular skill when you write stories online, but sometimes it takes a lot of time and patience to transcript your thoughts. You may find yourself writing and re-writing many times over until you get the perfect sentence or paragraph. Sometimes you might find yourself stuck on a name for a character. That's OK, just leave it blank until it comes to you.

If you're new to writing, you might be asking yourself; "What is a short story?" A short story is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It's a story but not a full-length novel. You are trying to pack as much as you can into a few dozen pages, with as much story, plot and action as you can. A well written short story will captivate the reader and leave them wanting more.

 

When we think to write stories online, we want them to have a really catchy title or headlining sentence, so that people are interested straight away. When you have your story sorted out, try to make a title that tells the reader what the short story is going to include. For example, if you are going to write stories online that are going to be dark, evil or mythical in nature, you should try to make the title stand out, something like "When Darkness Comes" or "Creatures of the Night" are great examples.

A title needs to be something that describes what your short story is basically about. If you write a story about a girl who travels across the desert on her own and comes across some blood thirsty creatures she has never seen in her life before, and the title is "The Hot Desert Sun" or "Vacation Gone Wrong", it's not really going to interest a reader as much at first glance.
